World Book Day

What a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. The children looked fantastic in their costumes.
Foxes and Hedgehogs heard the story Cave Baby by cave woman Mrs Watt! and did some super painting with natural paints in caves! Mrs Davies read the story 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea" and the children made some delicious tea time treats, sandwiches, baked beans on toast, pasta and biscuits! The children also .visited the year one teachers. They listened to the 'BFG and 'Giraffes Can't Dance' and produced some super pictures of bottled dreams and learnt a dance!

It was lovely looking at some of the great stories that you like reading at home.

A Fire Engine Visit

Many thanks to Rob and Andy from Lymington Fire Rescue Service for giving up their time to come and show the Foxes and Hedgehogs the Fire engine. It was fantastic seeing the engine, the children climbed into the cab and were able to squirt the water from the hose!
We learnt lots of things including the fact that the fire engine has 1800 litres of water in a tank at the back!
Andy showed us all his special safety gear and was able to get changed into it in just 50 seconds!!!! I wonder if you children could get dressed in the morning that quickly?!

Around the world

This week the children have been travelling around the world..first they celebrated Chinese New Year and enjoyed tasting some Chinese cuisine. Then they learnt about Europe and some famous landmarks. We looked at Great Britain, the Queen and things that symbolise our country, such as Fish and Chips, tea, cricket and the London Eye! We enjoyed having a British cream tea with scones, jam and cream. After that we had an African day, with some African drumming and we tried gumboot style African  dance. Finishing off with a party for Elmer the elephant! An enjoyable, busy week to start the new term off.

To conclude our traditional story topic this week we focussed on Jack and The Beanstalk. A tall beanstalk had grown in our classrooms going out of the roof!!!
The children re told the story well and enjoyed playing with the magic beans.
We also focussed on the arts this week... The children experimented with clay and made some super creations and they sang and danced in our new 'Disco Den' role play area.

Thank you to everyone who attended our family celebration.
Have an enjoyable half term holiday!

The Ugly Duckling

The next story we have been learning as part of our traditional story topic has been 'The Ugly Duckling'.

The children have been thinking about what makes them happy and what they are good at. They have made some special medals.

In maths the children have been measuring developing their mathematical language for length, weight and capacity.

In PE the children have been enjoying using the wall bars as part of their gymnastics unit on shape and travel.

Foxes earned all their golf balls and celebrated by decorating a biscuit, well done!

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

Who's trip trapping over my bridge?
This was the question this week as the Foxes and Hedgehogs learnt about the Three Billy Goats Gruff story.
There has been lots of role play and writing happening this week. We have seen some super caption and sentence writing ....

The children have enjoyed doing outdoor learning by exploring and building bridges.

Three Little Pigs

This week the children have loved  being the big bad wolf  or one of the three little pigs, through drama and role play. They have built different sorts of houses and the wolf (a hair dryer!) has blown them over and they have been on a wolf welly hunt.
The children are progressing in their writing and are producing some good sentence writing - keep up the handwriting practice at home !

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

The children this week have been excitedly retelling the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears using lots of expressive story language. They have enjoyed playing with porridge oats again and have produced some lovely porridge bear art work.
The children have been busy with lots of writing and they have been encouraged to write sentences.

The role play areas have been the three bears cottage and the puppet theatre has been in great demand with the children. We are looking forward to seeing your puppets made at home.
