Our Time-Travelling Adventure

Our trip to St Barbe's Museum in Lymington was outstanding. The children loved being able to step back in time and experience history in a hands-on dressed-up way. We had lots of fun and learnt so much about the past.

While we were in the Museum's classroom we worked in detective teams to sort new and old objects by learning about the materials they were made from. We learnt about the way candles were used before we had light bulbs, and about how swimming costumes used to be made from wool, ITCHY!!

Exploring the museum collections was amazing, we got to drive a flat-bottomed lifeboat and work as Victorian servants cleaning a kitchen.

Then we found all of the dressing up outfits, and that was the start middle and end of the next 20 minutes! We were factory workers, smugglers, Victorian school children, and even young men getting ready to join the war effort.

The children's behaviour was exemplary, and they were a credit to both us at school, and you guys at home. The walk itself was the fastest of the year, and the children's road safety and risk awareness has improved so much as a result of our other trips into Lymington. Thank-you to the staff at St Barbe's and to all of the parents who supported us during the trip.
