Welcome back

Welcome Back
This week, we have welcomed Miss Skinner back to Reception.  She is with us for a three week placement, as part of her degree in Primary Education.

Repeating Patterns
The children have been learning about repeating patterns as part of the shape, space and measure element of the curriculum. They very much enjoyed making their own patterns using a variety of materials.
As part of this area of learning, Miss Skinner led an outside activity.  The children followed a treasure map.  They had to use patterns of movement to reach the treasure, for instance: '3 hops...4 jumps...3 hops...4 jumps'.  This led them to the treasure box hidden behind the tree.  Inside was 'lots and lots and lots of money'!
Everyone had a lot of fun and it inspired the children to design and label their own treasure maps.

Hedgehog Challenge

We got all squidgy with playdough and made hedgehogs, challenging the children to use their fingers to manipulate the dough.   They had to roll a round body in their palms, adding a pointy nose, and a spiky back.  This activity helped to develop the children's fine motor skills by strengthening their finger muscles.
